Chat Online — Free Video Chat
Chat online free, in real time, with a live picture wall
Most "chat online" sites either ask you to create an account, fill a profile, or wait for random pairing. TikaCam does none of that. Open the page, accept the terms, browse a live picture wall of who's online right now, and start a video call with someone you actually want to talk to. Free, encrypted, and instant.
How online video chat works on TikaCam
Most online chat sites use one of two models: a chat room where everyone types in the same space, or random pairing where the system matches you with someone arbitrary. Both have problems. Group rooms get noisy and it's hard to actually talk to one person. Random pairing wastes time on people who skip you immediately.
TikaCam uses a third model: the live picture wall. The wall shows real-time snapshots of every user currently online. You see them, you decide who looks interesting, you click. The other person gets a call request and chooses to accept or decline. If they accept, the call starts immediately, peer-to-peer.
This solves two problems at once. You don't waste time on random skips. And both people opted in to that specific conversation, which makes the call itself more meaningful.
Chat online in three steps
- Open TikaCam. Go to tikacam.com in any modern browser. No download, no install.
- Accept the terms and pick someone from the wall. The picture wall updates continuously. Browse, find someone, tap their snapshot.
- Start the call. If they accept the call request, you connect directly. End the call whenever you want and return to the wall to find someone else.
Why TikaCam is completely free
TikaCam is an independent project, built and maintained by Aitor, a systems engineer based in Switzerland. The site is self-funded, with no investors, no premium tier, and no ads. Read the full story on the about page.
The reason it stays free is simple: the goal isn't to monetize, it's to keep a place where people can have real, spontaneous video conversations without barriers. WebRTC peer-to-peer means we don't pay for video relay servers — your call goes directly between you and the other person, so the bandwidth cost stays low.
TikaCam vs other "chat online" platforms
Here's how different online chat services compare on what actually changes the experience: how you connect, what you have to give up, and what privacy you get.
| Platform | Connection | Signup | Encryption |
|---|---|---|---|
| TikaCam | Picture wall — you choose | None | P2P WebRTC |
| Chatroulette | Random video pairing | None | Server-routed |
| OmeTV | Random with filters | None | Server-routed |
| Discord (voice) | Pre-arranged servers | Required | Server-routed |
| Difference | TikaCam is the only one combining visual choice, no signup, and peer-to-peer encryption. | ||
Who uses TikaCam to chat online
Different people show up on the picture wall for different reasons:
- People who used Omegle. Omegle shut down in November 2023 (full story) and many of its users moved to TikaCam looking for the same kind of spontaneous, no-account real-time chat — but with more control over who they talk to.
- People practicing a language. The picture wall lets you pick someone whose presence suggests they might speak the language you're learning. See more on language exchange.
- People who want to make new friends online. Without the noise of social media. More on this.
- People who value privacy. No account means no profile to hack, no email to leak, no data to sell.
Is online video chat private on TikaCam?
Yes, by design. Three things make TikaCam's online chat private:
- Peer-to-peer calls. Your video and audio travel directly between you and the other person via WebRTC. They don't pass through TikaCam servers. We can't record or store call content because we never see it.
- WebRTC encryption is mandatory. The protocol encrypts media streams by default — it's not an opt-in feature.
- No accounts, no personal data. No email, no phone number, no profile. There's nothing for an attacker to steal because there's nothing stored.
The only thing that touches a server is the small public picture wall snapshot, which is reviewed by AI moderation before other users see it. That's there to keep the wall appropriate. The moderation only applies to the wall, not to your private calls.

What devices and browsers work?
TikaCam is browser-based and works on any modern browser:
- Desktop: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Brave
- Mobile: Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android, Firefox on Android
- Requirements: a webcam, a microphone, and a recent browser (last 2 years)

Who built this
TikaCam is built and maintained by Aitor, an indie systems engineer based in Switzerland. He works professionally with production clusters in regulated industries (banking, healthcare) and runs TikaCam as an independent side project. The site started in January 2024, after Omegle's shutdown left a gap.
It's not a startup, not VC-funded, and there's no growth team. Just one person trying to build something useful. Read the full story and timeline on the about page.
Frequently asked questions
Is TikaCam really free to chat online?
Yes, completely. There's no premium tier, no subscription, no hidden cost, no ads. All features are available to everyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No. TikaCam doesn't ask for an email, phone number, or any personal information. After accepting the terms, you can use the picture wall immediately.
Can I chat online with someone specific?
TikaCam is built around meeting new people through the picture wall, not connecting with people you already know. For that, a tool like Discord or a regular video call app is more appropriate.
Are TikaCam conversations recorded?
No. Calls are peer-to-peer and don't pass through TikaCam servers. We can't record or store conversations because we never see them.
What happens if I see inappropriate content on the wall?
AI moderation reviews picture wall snapshots before they're shown to other users. If something inappropriate slips through, you can also report it. The moderation only applies to the public wall — once you start a call, you're in a private peer-to-peer connection.
Does TikaCam work without a webcam?
No. The picture wall is built around real-time webcam snapshots. Without a webcam, you can't appear on the wall and the call experience won't work as intended.
Why use TikaCam instead of a chat room?
Chat rooms are typed conversations in shared spaces — useful for some things, but not for one-on-one video. TikaCam is specifically designed for direct, real-time video conversations between two people who chose each other.
Is TikaCam safe to use?
TikaCam uses peer-to-peer WebRTC encryption, AI moderation on the public picture wall, and requires no personal data. That said, online conversations always carry some level of risk — share carefully and end any conversation that feels off. See the safety page for guidance.
